Celebrating Made In Kentucky!

I know it has been awhile since I last posted to the blog, but it was for good reason. A week ago today, our first son was born. Last night, I had the opportunity to raise a glass to the men and women who protect our country, my wife, and Adler.

We used a bottle of Derby Edition Woodford Reserve I bought four years ago just prior to our Derby Day wedding in Maysville, KY. I have been saving it specifically for this occasion. Super Saver won the race with Calvin Borel as jockey, but I feel as if I was the ultimate winner on that day. So many great things have happened since.

We had four generations of my family present and I read the toast I wrote while at the hospital thinking about this new life:

Wishes for Adler

I wish for you a wandering soul, that you live and appreciate every moment, but that you always yearn to see and do more.

I wish for you patient diligence, that you may push for what’s beyond your grasp, embracing successes and challenges similarly instead of being frustrated by long journey’s and outcomes that differ from your anticipations.

I wish for you a calm, kind, and giving heart and the opportunity to find those who will need you, that your dreams will be fulfilled by bringing happiness to others.

I wish for you to think quickly and speak slowly, that you can firmly stand on what you believe, but be wise enough to hear differing opinions and grow from them.

Love your mother, she was courageous and made all of this possible. She will be your guide. I will give you my heart and spirit, take what you can to find your way. We love you as our families have loved and cared for us.

Anyway, we toasted an amazing Kentucky made baby, with a great Kentucky made bourbon!
